Jose J Ortiz Cordero
MBA. Environmental Management, Breathing coach, Biologist with emphasis on ecology and sustainability, business with marketing and permaculture designer
José Ortiz is a Costa Rican biologist, environmental manager, and luxury expedition host whose life’s work bridges ecological science, regenerative living, and transformative travel. With dual degrees in Biology and Business Management, José began his deep engagement with nature in 2000 when he first crossed Corcovado National Park and fell in love with the raw vitality of the Osa Peninsula and Golfo Dulce. His biology thesis explored butterfly pollination behavior in the tropical rainforest, laying the foundation for a lifetime dedicated to ecological understanding and conservation. For the past 18 years, José has worked in the tourism industry, where he has become a sought-after experience designer and expedition leader, especially in Costa Rica, Belize, and Panama’s ultra-luxury experiential travel sector. In 2007, he purchased 46 acres in the mountains of Golfito, where he established Santuario Gambagam, a living reserve focused on conservation, permaculture, and environmental education. In 2013, he co-published a newly discovered plant species, Pentagonia gambagam, in collaboration with botanist Barry Hammel. As the founder of Bioma Explorations, José curates deeply meaningful nature-based experiences rooted in biodiversity, local knowledge, and regenerative design. His passions include bioenergies, sustainable systems, and human potential through inner practices like Qi Gong and Shaolin Yoga. With experience spanning Iceland to India, José embodies the belief that regeneration is both an art and a science—grounded in ecology and expressed through conscious living.
