John Troughton
Planetary Action Manager | Guntonia Investments
John is the author of Action Management for Your Business and creator of an Operational Management System focused on aligning actions with outcomes at all levels of society — household, business, and nation. Since 2000, he has recognized the urgent need for non-financial management systems, especially in the face of accelerating planetary crises. His work advocates for structured, measurable approaches to planetary-level accountability.
With a background that includes collaboration with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) to improve board performance and integration of non-financial metrics, John’s journey has evolved through Total Quality Management (TQM), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and now into the ESG movement. However, he believes current approaches remain insufficient and fragmented in the face of systemic global challenges.
John proposes the next evolution: Planetary Action Management (PAM) — a new vision, framework, and operational system designed to address the complexity of environmental, social, and economic instability. Central to this is the development of a Planetary Balance Sheet: an integrated accounting system encompassing both financial and non-financial assets, liabilities, and planetary equity — aimed at guiding collective action and promoting sustainable impact.
With a clear focus on building wholistic, actionable systems for a regenerative future, John continues to advocate for equitable, knowledge-driven planetary stewardship.
