Paul Morris
Restoration Ecologist, M.Sc. CERP
As a Restoration Ecologist, I've dedicated my career to preserving and restoring ecosystems worldwide.
As the Co-Founder of Resilient Ecosystems Institute A.C and Planet Healers, I've led efforts to restore the tropical forest in Yucatan, Mexico, collaborating closely with local Mayan communities. Over the years, we've welcomed 40+ international volunteers and mentored three thesis projects with Mexican Universities.
With 30 years of experience as the owner-operator of Acorus Restoration, a native plant nursery and ecological consulting firm, I've become a leader in Canadian ecology and restoration. Through Acorus Restoration, I've propagated over 350 species of wetland, woodland, and prairie plants, working with government agencies, businesses, volunteers, and homeowners.
As a Project Manager for TRCA, I oversaw the restoration of meadow and prairie areas in Toronto. I led research projects on pesticide reduction, invasive species control, and hydrology, contributing to projects like The Meadoway and High Park.
Additionally, I am the course instructor for the "Introduction to Ecosystem Restoration" online course and "Foundations of Ecosystem Restoration" field course in partnership with the nonprofits Soil Food Web School and Ecosystem Restoration Communities.
I've actively contributed to environmental advocacy and education, serving as a volunteer firefighter and in roles such as chair and vice-chair of the Norfolk County Environmental Advisory Committee. I've conducted conservation and ecological restoration workshops and mentored over 60 interns.
In ecological consultation, I've conducted surveys for projects like the Highway 407 extensions and wetland evaluations for the Ministry of Natural Resources. I hold a CERP certification from the Society for Ecological Restoration, reflecting my commitment to ecological stewardship.
