Paul is a Restoration Ecologist who has dedicated his career to preserving and restoring ecosystems worldwide.
As the Co-Founder of Resilient Ecosystems Institute A.C and Planet Healers, he has led efforts to restore the tropical forest in Yucatan, Mexico, collaborating closely with local Mayan communities. Over the years, his projects have welcomed more than 40 international volunteers and mentored three thesis projects with Mexican universities.
With 30 years of experience as the owner-operator of Acorus Restoration, a native plant nursery and ecological consulting firm, Paul has become a leader in Canadian ecology and restoration. Through Acorus Restoration, he has propagated over 350 species of wetland, woodland, and prairie plants, working with government agencies, businesses, volunteers, and homeowners.
As a Project Manager for the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), he oversaw the restoration of meadow and prairie areas in Toronto. He led research projects on pesticide reduction, invasive species control, and hydrology, contributing to initiatives such as The Meadoway and High Park.
Additionally, Paul is the course instructor for the “Introduction to Ecosystem Restoration” online course and the “Foundations of Ecosystem Restoration” field course, delivered in partnership with the nonprofits Soil Food Web School and Ecosystem Restoration Communities.
He has actively contributed to environmental advocacy and education, serving as a volunteer firefighter and in roles such as chair and vice-chair of the Norfolk County Environmental Advisory Committee. Paul has conducted conservation and ecological restoration workshops and mentored over 60 interns.
In ecological consultation, he has conducted surveys for projects like the Highway 407 extensions and wetland evaluations for the Ministry of Natural Resources. Paul holds a CERP certification from the Society for Ecological Restoration, reflecting his commitment to ecological stewardship.
