I've been thinking about these things for way too long, without directly getting involved. Now I have to find out what I can do about it. If most of the ideas have some merit, it should be possible redesign cities to work with nature. Because we fucked most things up by cutting down old growth forests and straightening fields.
To undo it quickly, we must replace their functions in nature. Which could be quite simple - build cylindrical homes that use water and heat pumps to stabilize ecosystems. With mechanized agroforestry, we could build entire cities in places degraded by monocropping while increasing farm yields and provide mostly local food to everyone.
If we could design 1 house, that can sustain ~5 people on 1 hectare, we could start reclaiming land from the extractive economy.
