Over my career I have launched and led ventures that empowered people for common good reshaping policy and practice through knowledge-building, engagement, and advocacy.
Combining management, political, communications, and technical skills, I have played key developmental roles in groundbreaking initiatives that brought new products, services, and networks to life and helped people to understand how their own interests and public interests could be aligned in new ways.
In my early life, going where the spirit took me, campaigned for the United Farmworkers, worked on merchant ships, sold wine, volunteered for art auctioneers, and led bicycle and canoe tours.
Good fortune to work as an intern for political consultants in Washington DC led to a lifelong interest in community and policy change and the opportunity to launch the first national daily news service on US electoral politics in 1987 – The Hotline. Our operation, which combined participatory reporting, nonpartisan intelligence generation, and dialogue catalysed my belief in the potential for creating public purpose ventures that could help people strengthen knowledge about their own interests in the context of the public interest.
This led to a stint as a consultant using newly emerging info-tech to provide insights for corporations and NGOs, and to joining very early stage startups in executive roles that engaged communities in understanding the potential of integrating community knowledge, information and intelligence to build inclusive movements in the domains of international trade policy and sustainable development as well as nonprofit and philanthropic management.
My full time occupation since 2022 is Third Horizon Earth, a transition catalyst organisation for regenerative development that seeks to engage innovators across disciplines and domains in cultivating the emerging practice of regenerative development -- in a way that fundamentally re-aligns the ways we do business and live in communities in synergy with nature and each other.
If you are designing or participating in creating regenerative business, government, financial, civic, or academic projects, I would be very interested in talking. Please get in touch.
On a part time basis, I also act as a partner with the Social Complexity Lab, Geneva and a mentor with the Founder Institute.
